FAQs

When to book the seamstress?

As soon as you buy your gown, or sooner! If you haven't bought a gown yet but still want to book with me thank you, I'm flattered! Almost all gowns need at least some minor tailoring and at the very least a steam, your $50 deposit would cover steaming, and anything beyond that we can discuss once you select your dress. Don't hesitate to get yourself on my list if you know you want me!

When do fittings start?

Actual fittings typically start 8-12 weeks ahead of the event date for wedding gowns, 6-8 weeks ahead for all other dresses.

How much will it cost?

Wedding gowns average $300-$600 in alterations fees. Bridesmaids average $60-$150, all other gowns vary so much it's best to ask for a ballpark quote. Of course fees are all based on the construction of the gown and what alterations are to be done. If you have a rough idea what you need and photos of the dress and/or a link to the designer’s website, I can provide an estimate.

Do you offer custom dresses?

Yes, but I only take on a few commissions of this type each year. Generally clients find purchasing a gown that is close to what they're looking for and adding or subtracting from it to get their perfect look is faster, easier and more economical.

I want to wear my mom's dress or veil:

Cool! I love projects like this, I can't wait to work with you. An in-person consultation is the first thing we need to do.

I need a non-standard timeline:

Clients often need fitting timelines that aren't typical, this can include body changes due to weight loss or pregnancy, someone living out of town and only arriving the week before the wedding, or leaving weeks or months before your big day for a destination wedding.

As long as I know ahead of time I should be able to accommodate.

I'm planning on losing weight:

This is one of the reasons the 8-12 week window works for me. Your goal should be to wrap up any changes to your figure prior to having your gown fitted, and after your first fitting switch to maintenance. If you're really concerned about a drastic weight loss very close to your wedding you may need a non-standard timeline and that's ok as long as we plan for it ahead of time.

Are you insured?

The contents of my studio are fully insured. This includes your gown while it is in my possession.

Accessibility

I run a home based business and because of this my second floor studio is not fully accessible. I do offer mobile fittings for those that require them, for an additional fee. Fees are determined by the distance from my studio, amount of alterations to be performed and number of clients to be seen. This fee applies to each fitting appointment.
